Opinion - Should We Terminate Terminator Technology? "Terminator technology" is a method of controlling gene expression in plants that renders harvested crop seeds sterile. One issue raised by the terminator controversy is that agricultural research is increasingly expensive and technically complex. Terminator is likely to accelerate the process of corporate concentration that these trends encourage. Secondly, terminator reflects a growing tendency for agricultural research to marginalise small farmers and thereby increase food insecurity.
